Hateful Rhetoric
Daphne started screaming "I hate you!" in tears this week when she gets mad at me. How dare I ask her to clean her room before she is allowed to watch cartoons. Or require her to finish her lunch, including her fruit, before getting a treat.

Father's Day Part 1
We spent the day before Father's Day with my dad and Mary at Lake McQueeney.

Tyler initially told us he didn't want to ride in the boat because he was too scared. Once we talked him into it he loved it, especially when we went really fast. |

Daphne wanted a turn too. I didn't let her have her own paddle because I was afraid it would end up overboard. So Daphne kept putting her hands in the water and pretended to paddle that way. |

Reyes Worry Gene
Tyler has always been a cautious person but more and more I am beginning to think he inherited the worry gene that Michael's mom (maiden name Reyes) and sister Ludy are known for. Last Thursday afternoon we had a flash flood warning and got very loud alerts on our phones. The alert warned to stay high and dry and so we stayed home instead of going to the grocery store.
The next morning it was raining and so the friends we were going to meet at a splash pad invited us over instead. When I told Tyler we were going to drive to their house he looked worried and asked about the flash floods. I assured him the flash flood timeframe had already passed. As we were driving in the rain I pointed out a backhoe doing work up ahead. Tyler said, "That's good, but keep your eyes on the road. And keep those wipers wiping!"

Nap
Tyler doesn't nap very often but he must have been wiped out today after his first three days back at his old preschool, which he will be attending most of the summer. He curled up on the living room floor after lunch amongst all his pillows and blankets from a "fort" made earlier this morning.
Splash Pad and Playground
Despite pending rain from Tropical Depression Bill, we have yet to see more rain today so the kids enjoyed some time at the park this morning.
The jets weren't turned up full blast today but that didn't stop the fun |
Tyler said the Hook 'em Horns pose was for PawPaw and Uncles Bryce and Brad |
After the horns obscenity (my opinion), Tyler told me the next pose was for me and flashed two Aggie Gig 'ems. After I took the photo he laughed and said the X of his arms means No Aggies! |

Daphne vs. Tyler Styles
Michael and I have had a nice hiatus from the kids crawling into our bed in the middle of the night. However, both kids joined us this past week. They have very different styles to their approach.
Saturday night: Daphne stepped up to the platform base on our bed right next to me. Then she hoisted herself up on to the bed landing right on top of my stomach (this is what alerted me to the fact she was climbing into bed). Then Daphne settled between Michael and me like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Last night: I awoke to Tyler tapping me on the shoulder repeatedly. He didn't say anything but I knew he wanted permission to climb into bed. I asked if he wanted to climb in and he nodded yes. Then he gently climbed up and over me before snuggling up next to me.
Both kids did give a very contented smile after settling into their sleeping spot.

Soccer Camp
Tyler attended soccer camp (1/2 days here in town) last week and had a blast. They worked on lots of skills but also played many scrimmages, which was Tyler's favorite part. Tyler was awarded the Golden Boot for the week for his group of 8.
Dangerous like Daphne
Daphne and I ran into one of her friends from gym class and his mother while Daphne was playing inside the clothing racks at Target. After parting ways, I heard Daphne's little friend, who was peacefully strapped into the shopping cart, ask his mom if he could get out of the cart and be "dangerous like Daphne". I didn't hear what she told him but I got a good chuckle out of the question.

Cinderella
Last weekend Cinderella made an appearance at a birthday party that Daphne attended. Cinderella was pretty amazing. She entertained, painted faces, made balloon animals, and posed for photos. Daphne did not want her photo with Cinderella but did like the face painting and the balloon butterfly that Cinderella made her.

Family Game Night
Last night we taught Tyler how to play Uno. Daphne played for a little bit with my assistance but quickly lost interest. We already knew that Tyler is competitive but the Protzman love of cards is alive and well. My mom's side of the family, the Protzman's, have enjoyed playing cards for many years and many have a fierce competitive streak. Tyler definitely relished when he was able to play the Wild Draw 4 card, Draw 2 card, Skip, and Reverse. He also broke out into a victory dance when he won the first round. But in the long run I prevailed and beat the pants off Tyler and Michael. I just had to point that out based on the Protzman genes I inherited. This morning Tyler rationalized his loss and said that the only reason I won is because I have played Uno before and it was his first time playing. He did also note that Daddy, who scored a big goose egg, should have beat him since he had played before.
Last Day of School
Tyler's last day of kindergarten was on Thursday. We can't believe our little guy will be in 1st grade this fall. We celebrated the last day of school with a bouncy house trip, dinner out, and a family watching of Monday's episode of American Ninja Warrior, which Tyler absolutely loves.
