Loggie
We were recently browsing for home goods and Tyler got really excited about this pillow that looks like a 4x4 piece of lumber. He begged and begged us to buy it. Thinking this was a teaching moment, we told Tyler that if he really wanted the pillow then he would have to buy it with his own money since he does have some recent birthday, Valentine's, and Easter money saved up. We never dreamed Tyler would actually buy the pillow when he could spend his money on video games or toys. So far it has been money well spent in Tyler's mind because he likes to sleep with the pillow and he really enjoys hitting people with the pillow since it looks like lumber. Tyler has been affectionately been calling the pillow "Loggie". It reminds me of the Log Lady from Twin Peaks!
Ninja
I made Tyler a smoothie for the first time in a while. He has really been into LEGO's Ninjago lately and I thought he would be impressed that our blender is made by Ninja. When I told Tyler this he furrowed his brow and said, "It can't be a ninja! Ninjas are quiet and stealthy!" He has a good point there.

Boys Don't Talk!
Tyler's teacher recently sent home a reading book and part of Tyler's homework has been to read stories from the book to us. Once they finish the book they turn it back in for a new one. Some of the stories take quite a while to get through since it takes Tyler time to sound out many of the words but he is making progress. A few days ago we had this conversation:
Me: Have any of your friends finished reading their book?
Tyler: I don't know.
Me: Have you asked any of your friends if they have finished reading their books?
Tyler: Boys don't talk about that stuff! We just play.

New Wheels
We just got Tyler a 20" bike because his knees were hitting the handlebars on his 16" bike. He is still getting the feel for the bigger frame but he is handling it pretty well.
3D Art
Ms. Mary got Tyler a really cool Crayola dragon coloring book. After you color each page you can scan it with the iPad to a special app that turns the drawing into a 3D version.

Superhero
For some time now Daphne has told me she wants a superhero cape because Tyler has Superman PJs with a detachable cape as do some of her cousins. When we saw this superhero shirt with detachable cape at the store Daphne just had to have it and I couldn't resist because it is so cute. When Daphne first put the shirt and cape on she ran through the house like she was flying. All those bad guys better watch out!
Potty Regression
I awoke at 4:45 am on Thursday morning to a strange sensation that I was wet. Upon further investigation it turned out that Daphne, who had been snuggled up next to me since about 1 am, had peed in my bed and we were both laying in the pee puddle. Ewwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!! Mama was not happy and promptly woke up Daddy. We stripped Daphne down and she was quite surprised to be woken up so early and given a bath. I started laundry and showered before trying to get some more shut-eye and we sent Daphne back to her own dry bed.
While I can't blame Daphne for having a potty accident in her sleep (although it does give me cause for banning her from my bed), she has had a handful of "accidents" over the past few weeks that we think were preventable. One of them even occurred as she stood in the corner of the bathroom and proceeded to wet herself. Luckily most of the potty regressions have been at home but there is a certain play structure at a fast food restaurant that I will not name that has hopefully had a good cleaning since Daphne's last visit.

Toothless
Tyler lost a baby tooth on the bottom this week. That means he is currently missing 3 teeth and he also has another loose tooth on the bottom. At this rate he will be drinking his food soon!

Shopping Adventures
Shopping with Daphne is like shopping with a Tasmanian devil. She runs all over the place, hops on and off the cart, ducks under clothing racks (sometimes knocking stuff off in the process), sits on any pieces of furniture she sees, touches all the merchandise, and lately she poses and asks me to take photos (see below).

Hey Good Looking
We were recently at a clothing store that had tri-fold mirrors in the main area. I kid you not, Tyler walked up to the mirrors, took a look at himself, and said, "Hey good looking!"

6 Seconds
Daphne still has no concept of time. Whenever I ask her if she is ready to get out of the bath tub she almost always replies, "6 more seconds!"
The Desert
Daphne keeps telling me that she wants to go to the desert to pet a golden snake. Not sure what that's all about!

Photo Pose Practice
I asked Daphne to smile for a photo at home before taking her to school on picture day. These are the poses she gave me and I'm not sure which pose she did at school for the official photo.
Nothing Matches!
One morning last week I went to check on Tyler before school because he wasn't downstairs yet eating breakfast. I found him in his room wearing nothing but his underwear. Tyler whined, "Nothing matches!" Nevermind that he has a gazillion t-shirts and tons of athletic shorts, many of which are black or dark blue and go with everything. I had to bite my tongue to keep from asking if he was a teenage girl!

Crawfish Boil
Brad and Megan brought 80 pounds of crawfish with them from New Orleans for a big crawfish boil. Brad boiled the crawfish in four batches of 20 pounds and they were yummy! We probably polished off about 60 pounds with the help of family and friends of my dad's.
That's 40 pounds of lie crawfish in the cooler. Tyler helped Uncle Brad clean them. |
We held a crawfish race and except for one that moved about a foot, the rest barely moved. |
Teasing Tyler that I was going to toss him in with the crawfish |
Tyler wouldn't touch the crawfish but Daphne showed no fear. |
Daphne was the first cousin to hold a crawfish and Noah decided to follow suit. |
A 20-pound batch of cooked crawfish with corn, onions, garlic, and potatoes |
Noah, Damon, and Micah all ate crawfish and Damon even learned to peel a few. Tyler finally tried one because his cousins were eating them. He said it was okay and stopped after one. |
All cleaned up from a day outside and banging away on PawPaw's keyboard |
