Sunday Parkways in North Portland

Viola, Tyler, and Jack

This past weekend we quite enjoyed Sunday Parkways in North Portland. Eight miles of local streets were closed to cars and several parks along the route had festivities. For the most part Tyler was pretty at ease riding his bike amidst all the bike traffic. He did get upset a few times when Jack passed him because Tyler likes to be the leader of the pack.

At the Zoo

Mr. Independent insisted on pulling the wagon.

Pile into the Jeep kids! Tyler was much more interested in driving the Jeep.

Stylin'

Big Brother in Training

Tyler had a blast pushing his old stroller around while Michael and I did a little work in the garage. His future baby brother or sister better be ready for a fast ride!

Family Sedan or Race Car?

Lately Tyler keeps asking to ride in the car (a Camry) instead of our SUV (a Pilot). When out and about with Tyler we almost always take the Pilot because it is roomier and easier to get Tyler in and out of his car seat. We thought Tyler wants to ride in the Camry because he rarely gets to ride in it. However, we now think it's because Tyler thinks the Camry is a race car. A few days ago he started calling it his race car. I should point out that our Camry is a very neutral gray and not even remotely flashy in color. This morning I took Tyler to daycare in the Camry and we had the following conversation as I was driving maybe a whopping 25 mph down our street:
  • Tyler: This car is fast!
  • Me: Faster than the Pilot?
  • Tyler: Yeah!

Introducing Ziggy!

Crown to rump measurement: 8.6 mm (June 15)

Heartbeat: 127 beats per minute
You probably guessed from the ultrasound photos that I am pregnant! I am 7-1/2 weeks along and the big due date is February 3. We have dubbed the baby Ziggy while in utero, although my dad has been calling "her" Savannah since he wants a granddaughter. Tyler does not fully understand what is going on yet. When we ask him if he wants a baby brother or baby sister he often says "no" or he tells us that he wants a big brother. Funny how it doesn't work that way! The pregnancy is going well so far. I'm mostly just more tired than normal so I have been napping while Tyler naps and going to bed early.

Happy Father's Day!

Hope all the dads had a great day! We enjoyed a nice family bike ride and trip to the playground. Can you believe that I forgot to bring the camera?

Little Gym End-of-Semester

Doing a flip skill on the bar with Teacher Adam

Tyler loves to hang from the bar and swing like a monkey

Tyler needed a little moral support to go up and get his certificate and ribbon. He completely refused to sit with all the other kids for the class photo.

Drop Kick

We did not teach Tyler how to drop kick, but he seems to have figured out how to do it on his own just fine. We are going to have to start banning balls in the house soon!

Fleet Week

We went downtown today to check out all the ships in town for the Rose Festival Fleet Week. There was a really long line to tour the Navy ships, so we opted instead just to tour two of the Coast Guard ships.

Checking out an Army Corps of Engineers dredging ship.

Waiting in line to tour the USCGC Henry Blake. Tyler liked all the cranes on board like the one behind him for the life boat and the big one used to lift buoys.

Captain Tyler is at the helm of the Henry Blake.

Checking out the buoys.

The USCGC Bluebell

Captain Tyler takes the helm again, this time aboard the Bluebell.

Shootin' Hoops

In addition to shooting hoops, Tyler also kicks and drop kicks his basketballs. We are working on not doing any drop kicks in the house!

Cruisin' Sherwood

The boys headed to Cruisin' Sherwood yesterday for a little guy time to check out classic and custom cars.

Mr. Accessories

This morning Tyler:
  • Tried to help me buckle the strap on my high heels
  • Dug out his toy watch to wear after he saw me put on my watch and other jewelry
  • Reached for his sunglasses as soon as we got in the car

Morning Paper

Tyler was very fascinated by the picture of the helicopter on the front page of the newspaper this morning. He insisted that he bring the paper with him in the car.

Lawn Mower

Tyler is currently excited about lawn mowers. We have had to mow our grass pretty frequently with all the spring rain we have had and Tyler loves to watch us in action with the mower. Here is a photo of Tyler climbing up to the window to watch our neighbor mow his grass.

NICU Reunion

It is hard to believe now that once upon a time Tyler was a preemie! At the NICU reunion today we stopped by the exhibit of a small baby doll in a NICU bed with breathing apparatus, monitors, etc. and Tyler was quite fascinated.

Summer Weather is Finally Here

Tyler had fun playing frisbee golf. He essentially threw his frisbee about 5' - 20' repeatedly around the course.

Batter up! Tyler has been hitting off the tee, hitting some pitched balls, and pitching to Michael and me.

Tyler ultimately decided not to eat the corn on the cob after giving it a lick.

I Want to Go Potty

Tyler spends quite a bit of time with potty-trained kids at daycare now. His teachers often have him try to go potty after diaper changes. Today, Tyler told one of his teachers, "I want to go potty". She took him to the bathroom and took off his diaper. Apparently Tyler lifted up the lid to the potty, leaned forward, and peed standing up! He was also very excited that he got to flush the potty. Michael and I were both quite shocked at this new development because Tyler shows absolutely no interest in the potty at home. Sometimes you gotta love peer pressure!
