One day last week another mom and I watched Daphne's pre-K class for two hours while the pre-K teachers went off campus for teacher appreciation lunch. Those 4- and 5-year olds are exhausting!!!! Luckily we started with recess, which was the easy part. The kids got to watch a movie afterwards but only about half of them were interested in the movie and the others were like a swarm of ants that kept running away from the main mound. I don't know how those teachers handle a whole class by themselves every day!

Bowling
All four of us were off today for President's Day. Since it was wet out, we decided to go bowling. This was the first time Daphne has bowled without rolling the ball down the ball positioner. She used a variety of methods with her 6-pound ball and even got a strike after using a very unconventional twist and hurl method. The frame earlier that same method caused her ball to jump over the bumper and land in the gutter, requiring one of the bowling alley employees to retrieve the ball. Michael and I didn't score much better than Tyler but Michael still managed to beat me by 1 point. I redeemed myself in a second game against Tyler with a slightly better score.
Tyler is still using the bumpers but his aim is getting better. |
Daphne mostly rolled the ball granny style. There were a few slow-rolling balls that we were surprised had enough oomph to make it all the way down to the pins. |

Michael went easy on Tyler at air hockey. I didn't go easy but Tyler easily managed to beat me by one point. |
Texas vs. Kansas State Basketball Game
Saturday was scout day at the UT men's basketball game. Tyler and I went with other scouts from his den and pack. It was a good game, with both teams neck and neck towards the last few minutes. However, Kansas State managed to win by 3 points at the very end. And yes, this Aggie actually pulled for the Longhorns but wore neutral colors and did not flash any longhorns with my hands. I do live in Austin after all!

Grocery Store Selfies
A few days ago I took both Tyler and Daphne to the grocery store. It had been a while since I had taken both kids with me to the store. They actually did pretty well, mostly because Daphne sat in the main part of the cart and Tyler stood on the front of the card and leaned into the cart so that the two of them could play games on my phone. They also took a million photos. Daphne's photos were random (e.g. food in our cart) and Tyler's photos were mostly selfies of him making faces.

Veloway
Today was a nice day for a family ride on the Veloway.
Tyler outgrew his old helmet and found a new one in his favorite shade of fluorescent yellow-green. He has about a million outfits that coordinate with this helmet. He is definitely easy to spot! |
Taking a short rest after our first 3-mile lap around the Veloway. Tyler survived a second lap and even made it halfway up the big incline both times before walking his bike up to the top. |
Take My Picture
Daphne really likes to pose while we are out and about and then tells me, "Take my picture!" Lately she also likes to borrow my phone so that she can take photos of random stuff (e.g. water rings on a picnic table, other blurry stuff I can't make out).

Career Day
Daphne's class recently learned about community helpers and had visits from a mail carrier and a firefighter and they got to go inside their vehicles. They capped off the unit with a career day where the kids got to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up. Daphne decided to dress up as a vet.

Houston
The kids and I made a quick trip to Houston last weekend so I could go to my friend Angie's baby shower. We had fun staying with PawPaw and catching up with Uncle Bryce and the male cousins.

Fun Run
Last Friday the kids did a fun run at school to raise money for the school. The kids could run, walk, skip, hop, jump, etc. and try to get in as many laps as possible in a set time period. The goal was for kids to max at 15 laps but some of them, including Tyler exceeded that. Both Tyler and Daphne finished more laps than they thought we would. Daphne completed 6 laps (1.5 miles) and Tyler completed 18 laps (4.5 miles!). There was a pokemon theme and there were various pokemon (I don't really know all the terms) on the track with flag football flags. You could get a prize if you got a flag. Tyler didn't care about the prizes and was focused on doing as many laps as he could. He essentially ran the whole time and only walked a few times to catch his breath. And although we have had an unseasonably warm winter, it was actually in the high 40s throughout the whole day. The pre-K, kindergartners, and 1st graders ran together. The 4th and 5th graders ran together. And the 2nd and 3rd graders ran together at the end of the day.
