Coloring

The Hurtado siblings quietly coloring away in peace. It wasn't long before they were squabbling over crayons and Daphne was nibbling on crayons but the peace was nice while it lasted.

Crash!

Apparently Tyler, his buddy Christopher, and some other kids were crashing into each other at indoor play park yesterday while riding big plastic tricycles. The gal running play park had to step out for a minute and she asked my friend Sandie and I to keep an eye on the boys to make sure they didn't play bumper cars. She said she had already asked them to stop. On the way home I asked Tyler if him and Christopher had gotten in trouble for playing bumper cars. He indignantly replied, "We weren't playing bumper cars! We were playing demolition derby!"

Tigard Festival of Balloons

Festival Part 1- Sunny Saturday
We enjoyed the kids fun zone and carnival at the Tigard Festival of Balloons on Saturday.

Building a helicopter with Mommy
at the Home Depot fun zone

Daphne was enthralled with the stuffed chicken that
played the chicken dance song at the corn bowling area.

Ready for take-off
Festival Part 2- Rainy Sunday
We had planned to watch the hot air balloon launch that takes place from 5:45 to 6:15 am. We woke the kids up at 5 am!!!!! Unfortunately it was raining enough that they cancelled the launch for Sunday. Since we were already awake we decided to head out for breakfast instead. Then it was nap time!

Our happy angry bird

Old and Bossy

I was giving Michael a hard time because I noticed a new crop of gray hairs on his head.

Me: Tyler, do you think Daddy is old?
Tyler: No.
Me: Do you think I'm old?
Tyler: Yes.
Me: Why do you think I'm old?
Tyler: Because you boss kids around.

Gym Class

Daphne's last gym class of the winter/spring season was yesterday. They actually had their big show week last week when all the kids got ribbons, but I brought my camera without the memory card to that class.
Balls on the air track

Bubbles- always a favorite

Maybe Mommy was right...

maybe we should have taken afternoon naps like she tried to get us to do!!!!

4:45 pm. Earlier in the afternoon Daphne screamed like a
banshee when I tried to put her in the crib or snuggle with her.
Then she proceeded to be cranky and hyper all afternoon!

5:45 pm. Tyler threw a tantrum at the park
because I wouldn't leave Daphne
unsupervised on the playground to play
basketball with him. That's when we
headed home, but alas no nap until much later.

Twin Troublemakers?

Whenever Tyler and Daphne both do something that they are not supposed to (e.g. jump on Tyler's bed together), Tyler proudly says, "We're twin troublemakers!"

Eye Roll Please...

Recently when we arrived at the park:
Me: Don't run off yet. I need to douse you with sunblock first.
Tyler: I know.

Shoes Really Make the Outfit

Daphne refused to let me change her diaper until I put her red shoes on. Then she ran off to play before I had a chance to get her dressed for the day.

Too Cool for School

Tyler's requirements for a cool school:
  • Flames painted on to the outside of the building
  • Paintings on the walls of fires and lightning bolts
  • Boys only!!!!

Tickle Tickle!

This morning I was about to put Daphne's car seat straps on her and she reached over and grabbed Tyler's thigh right above his knee in an attempt to tickle him. Although it did not garner a laugh from Tyler, she got a few chuckles from me!

Happy Father's Day

I hope all the dads had a great day yesterday!

Hurry up and take the picture Mom!

Slow Runners Beware

I can't remember his exact words, but Tyler told us that he likes to play tag with slow runners so that he can win. He's not competitive or anything!

Look Mom!

On Saturday during gym class, Daphne reached for the lower bar of the uneven bars, put both hands on the bar, took one hand off the bar, waved at me (while flashing a big grin), put her hand back on the bar, and then swung. It was so darn cute!

Mini Golf

We took the kids to play mini golf for the first time. Tyler was very excited about playing and really enjoyed it. He did a pretty good job following the rules considering his age and actually made some nice putts towards the end. Tyler was not happy that he came in 3rd. He seemed okay that Daddy won but was adamant that he came in 2nd place. We told Tyler that he did really well for a first-timer. Daphne was a total wild card on the golf course and was essentially a "golf hazard" for the rest of us. She mostly wandered around and grabbed golf balls. Daphne seemed to particularly like the green ball and she often dropped it directly into the hole with her hand. Michael and I helped her swing the club a few times but she really is too little.

18-Month Check Up

Born to ride! Daphne loved sitting on
this ATV while Tyler got his hair cut.
Although two weeks early, Daphne had her 18-month well child visit with the doctor on Friday. She is doing great and developing on par with her age. Here are the stats:
  • Weight = 25.8 lb (75th percentile)
  • Height = 31 in (30th percentile)
  • Head circumference = 18.3 in (50th percentile)
So far it looks like she is going to follow in my footprints to be a shorty!

In Need of a Nap

Last night Michael started nodding off while reading books to Tyler. (This was around 7:30!) Tyler woke Michael up and said, "Daddy, I know why you are so sleepy. You didn't have a nap today."

Family Bike Ride

Our littlest cyclist

All set to go with snacks and toys. We are excited that
Daphne is big enough for the bike trailer this summer!

Tyler is really fast on his balance bike now. We
know he is ready for his bike with pedals but
he is not so sure that he is ready.

After riding his bike for a while and playing on the playground,
Tyler decided to ride back in the trailer. Both Daphne and
Tyler fell asleep in the trailer.

Grand Floral Parade

Tyler loves parades and was excited to go to the Grand Floral Parade on Saturday. Tyler liked the marching bands and eating cotton candy. Daphne loved waving back at anyone that was waving and really liked the horses. She squealed in delight when the Clydesdale horses went by.
While Tyler and Michael were exploring before
the parade, Daphne made herself at home in
Tyler's chair and tried to drink his water.

Comfy seats? Check. Snacks? Check? Beverages? Check.
All ready for the parade!

Nap time

Splash Pad

We hit our first splash pad of the summer. Of course I forgot that the parks near Teresa's house have splash pads and forgot to bring bathing suits. So Tyler borrowed a pair of Jack's athletic shorts and I let Daphne run around in her diaper. Daphne didn't play in the water too long. I think it was a little cold for her and she wasn't wild about getting sprayed randomly. Tyler and Viola had a blast though.

Redneck swimsuit

Tyler and Viola got a kick out of Jack sitting in Daphne's
car seat and making faces in the baby mirror.

Equal Treatment

Daphne thinks she can do anything that Tyler does and has been demanding equal treatment. She squealed angrily at me the other morning because her dry cereal was on her high chair tray while Tyler was eating his cereal out of a bowl. She perked right up when I put her cereal in a bowl and gave her a spoon. Then Daphne happily held the spoon and used her free hand to eat her cereal. My baby is growing up too fast!

At the Park with Calvin and Lilith

The boys raced in circles around the playground on their bikes.

Daphne climbs on anything she can on the playground.

Thankfully Daphne decided the bars
were too difficult to climb.

Racing down the slides

Playing the chimes

It doesn't seem that long ago that Tyler and Calvin were this
age playing these same chimes. Where does the time go?

At the Arcade

Tyler loves skee ball. I think Daphne
handled just about every ball before
Tyler took it out for rolling.

Daphne was upset when I stopped
putting tokens in the carousel.

Bebe schooling Tyler in air hockey.

Tyler was happy to get his air hockey fix.

Elaine helped Daphne get in on the action too.

My Kitchen Helpers

When Tyler helps in the kitchen Daphne wants to help too. So while making French toast this weekend, I gave her a stool, empty bowl, and a measuring spoon so she could feel like she was helping out.
