Zip Line

Daphne went to a fun birthday party last weekend at a gym with some fun apparatus we hadn't seen before. I think the highlight for many of the kids is when they broke out the zip line. Here is Daphne in action.

Boiling

Last weekend at the grocery store it was crowded so I parked way at the back of the lot. As the kids and I were walking to the store Tyler declared, "Can we HURRY up? It is BOILING out here!" I just had to chuckle because although it was warm it was definitely not boiling. The temperature was only 82. I told Tyler to wait a few weeks when the temperatures go up 10 - 15 degrees and then he can tell me it is boiling.

Little Gymnast

Daphne took a weekly gymnastics class throughout the duration of the school year. Last Friday they capped off the year with a Show Day. Each child was introduced individually and got to run out from behind a curtain and perform one of their skills. After their warm up, the class split into two groups and they rotated to different apparatus. Each child got a turn on the balance beam, floor, and uneven bars to show off their skills. All of the kids did pretty well performing in front of quite a large group of parents and extended family/friends. Daphne was very comfortable performing and had a smile on her face throughout. Here are a few quick video snippets and photos from Show Day.

Moving between apparatus in a train... Choo choo!

Ta da! Daphne's group is all done with the floor exercise.

Each child got to go up on the "podium" for their medal when
their name was called. Daphne was so excited to get her medal.

The whole class celebrated after they all had their medals.

Patio Queen

Any time we go to a store with patio furniture, Daphne just has to try it all out and would probably lounge for hours if I would let her.

Mosquito Magnet

The mosquitos have been really bad because of all the rain we have had. Poor Daphne is the biggest mosquito magnet we know! They find her first and go to town, even on a short walk from the house to the car. Earlier this week the question of the day in Daphne's pre-school class was "How many mosquito bites do you have?" The answers for the whole class were written on the white board. Most kids had answered 0, 1, or 2. Daphne's answer was 10, which is sadly pretty accurate. She was the only one in the double digits. We have been trying different bug sprays to figure out what works best. Some of the aggressive mosquitos on the coast even bit poor Daphne through her clothes!

Texas Rains

We got back from the coast on Memorial Day just as the second major thunderstorm hit Austin and caused flooding in the central part of the city amongst others.

Since we haven't made room to park in the garage and
our house doesn't have gutters (common here in the 90s),
we got drenched heading into the house.

The kids made a blanket/pillow/stuffed animal fort in the living
room while we watched all the flooding news coverage.
